Already during the recording of \u201cWerwolfthron\u201d, Wolf faced the challenge of how to create a full album from the few previously unreleased songs that had been passed down from DMD. Since there was no new original material at the time, they improvised. It was only afterward that they began writing their own songs for \u201cWolfskrieger\u201d, which was intended to be a collaborative work with Pantheon from the USA. Wolf had access to some lyrics written by JFN during his first imprisonment, and together with Unhold, new songs were created from them\u2014including the song \u201cColours of Autumn\u201d, which has since become a classic among Absurd\u2019s songs. Additionally, there were a few re-recordings of older tracks, and in 2002, Wolfskrieger was released for the first time, setting the direction for Absurd\u2019s further development. These songs are now available as a reissue on CD, featuring the original cover artwork that Njard specifically created for the LP version (first released in 2005).<\/div>\n

The most well-known recordings from Absurd\u2019s early era were all made behind bars, and to pull that off, we naturally had to get creative. A local nonprofit organization had created an opportunity for inmates at the local prison to practice musical instruments and play together as a band. That was exactly what we needed back then! Of course, we couldn\u2019t do this as Absurd, so we called ourselves In Ketten (\u201cIn Chains\u201d) and started covering songs by other bands, including the Misfits, The Animals, Ultima Thule, and Endstufe. In secret, however, we rehearsed Absurd songs, which we then covertly recorded and smuggled out of the prison. As In Ketten, we even performed several times in front of inmates and prison staff. One of those performances, in 1995 at the Ichtershausen prison in Thuringia, was recorded on video. Unfortunately, the video footage has been lost, and only the audio remains. That concert\u2014the only one featuring the \u201cclassic\u201d lineup of DMD, JFN, and CHS\u2014has since been released multiple times and is currently available again on CD (with an LP version to follow!).<\/div>\n

Between 1994 and 1995, Absurd took the stage five times behind prison walls under the alias In Ketten. From the very last of these shows a live recording survives, which we have recently reissued. It was through this prison band that we managed to complete and smuggle out the legendary recordings of \u201cOut of the Dungeon\u201d, \u201cThuringian Pagan Madness\u201d, and \u201cFacta Loquuntur\u201d \u2014 a feat made possible only under conditions of disguise and secrecy.However, that chapter of captivity has left a mark that will never fade. Even 30 years later, we stand in solidarity with the political prisoners of our movement in the prisons of Germany, Great Britain, Austria and elsewhere. One of them, Manuel from Tyrol, has been a loyal friend and comrade of Absurd for many years. Wolfsmond<\/b> was founded in 1994 by Managarm<\/b> \u2014 but that same year, DMD (Schatten)<\/b> had also written his own songs under the same name. When he discovered that another Wolfsmond<\/i> already existed (and had even released a demo), he shelved his idea.Years later, through Wolf<\/b>, he met Managarm<\/b> and joined his band after parting ways with Absurd<\/b>.
